Powerdance Philippines

Just yesterday, PowerDance Philippines held an audition for membership and scholarship. I was actually reluctant in going to this audition because, even though PowerDance is one the best dance companies in the Philippines, as far as I know, it specializes in interpretative dance, which is really not my kind of dance. I just hoped that I’ll be in their Hip Hop class. Nevertheless, along with my passion for dancing, I went to their studio. I was the last one to arrive because my friend, who invited me, for some reason, was confused on the place of the studio. She was literally telling me three places. :) Well, it’s no biggie anyway. After being interviewed by a renowned dancer, Douglas Nierras, and that usual challenging stretching, they taught us some jazz dance steps. The steps were actually pretty nice. It’s just that jazz isn’t that fun for me compared to Hip Hop. And then there was that time where dancers go to a side of the room and travel to the other side while doing some basic movements. What do you call that again? Anyway, the instructor grouped us into three. Unfortunately, having the last number, I have no one with me in my line. I was in the last line, I have to do the movements alone, and everyone watching no one but me. How uneasy can it get, huh?! Well, I just did the movements as well as I can and hoped to do it well enough to make me pass. I guess that’s all I can do at that time. In the last part, still in front of Sir Douglas, we danced the steps the instructor taught us. We had it by groups comprising, I think, 5 dancers. So what was the result? I PASSED! :) I can now attend 3 classes for free and I’m just glad one of those is Hip Hop! And here’s more: I’m actually under probation in a chance to be one of the PowerDance company members. I’m not really excited to dance jazz dances but if there’s a place where I can hone my jazz and modern ballet skills, even for free, I’m just so glad it’s in PowerDance. You know what? I don’t really feel that my parents want me to dance, but I really feel God does. ;)
